Charles Richards

Obituary of Charles Richards

Charles P. Richards, known as Chuck by family and friends, passed away Thursday, January 12th. On that day he enjoyed a round of golf with his wife, Nancy, and dinner at the TeePee before returning later that evening to his eternal home. He is survived by Nancy Richards and sons Jason (Eve) Richards and Adam (Teresa) Richards.

Chuck was born June 23, 1949, and was raised in the Chicago area where he excelled in academics and athletics. He attended Maine Township HS where his pitching led the team to the state playoffs. He attended Iowa State University on a full ride baseball scholarship and then later transferred and graduated from Southern Illinois University to be with the love of his life of which he celebrated nearly 53 years. Following graduation, they started a family. Jason was born 1974 and shortly after they decided to move to Arizona where Chuck joined his father's business. Adam was born 1977 and their human family was completed; although, they did harbor and love many pets. He was a huge presence in the lives of all that knew him. He was able to fix anything and often helped his neighbors, kids and business associates. He had the right tool for virtually any task and if he didn't he would go and buy three of them! His five grandchildren (Charlie, Rachel, Andrew, Benjamin and Emmett could count on him attending many of their school, church and sports-related functions). Family holidays were always spent at Chuck and Nancy's house for dinner, laughter, occasional tension, competitive games of all sorts and a dip in the pool. He loved cars and collecting; this habit would prove to be a challenge for those he left behind but would also be an adventure and provide some comic relief.

He was predeceased by his father Marmet (Rud) Richards, mother Virginia Richards, sister Deborah Hollister and is survived by his brother Steven P. Richards. Chuck's sudden departure leaves us in shock and grief. We will miss his goofy sense of humor, his generosity, his commanding presence and his love for us. Chuck, we love you and will miss you a lot.
